Plein Air Painter Reception: Elizabeth Pannell
Details
On select weekends, local artists are invited to Ocean House to share their artistic vision and give a demonstration of their skills.
Enjoy a reception at Ocean House on Saturday evening from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. to meet the artist. Earlier that day, catch Elizabeth Pannell in action as the sea air, sweeping views of the Atlantic and more than 150 years of history serve as inspiration for a work of art.
About Elizabeth Pannell
Working in oils and gouache, Elizabeth Pannell’s plein air paintings focus on the coastal areas of New England. Her compositions are instinctive and capture the sense of calm and renewal that one experiences in nature. There is a focus on the union between land and water; connection and release, as well as the direct response to painting on location. Natural light accentuate the use of color, rich in intensity and impressionistic in manor. Her seascapes, painted on Block Island, are reflections of a moment in time. Pannell maintains a studio in Providence Rhode Island. She holds degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design and Parsons School of Design
Artist statement:
I am drawn to the sea, to bask in its restorative powers. I was raised on the water, the daughter of a sailor, and have always had an emotional response to the sea’s energy. I paint from life, in locations which are imbued with peace and tranquility. In response to the elements, awash in color and light, I work to express this feeling of calm inspired by nature. My paintings are studies, impressions of a day, a location, a time of year, a moment, a memory.
