Up Close & Personal: My Life in Watercolor with Jeanne Potter
Meet master watercolorist Jeanne Potter and Ocean House Resident Curator and Director of Art Education. Jeanne will share examples of her lifelong passion for painting in watercolors – which includes the human face and form, still life, and urban, coastal and urban landscapes. Jeanne will share some of her secrets of her personal techniques for producing successful watercolor paintings.
Prior to Ocean House, Jeanne was for 10 years the Director of the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport. She has taught painting and drawing for over 20 years as a former faculty member of the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC, and currently teaches watercolor at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, CT. Jeanne has an extensive background in fine art gallery management, exhibitions, installation, and art sales.
Born in Pittsburgh, she holds BFA and MFA degrees from Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts with post-graduate studies at the Art Student’s League in New York.
In addition to managing the art exhibition programs at Ocean House, she oversees the “Artist in Residence Program” where award winning artists paint on the grounds of Ocean House providing the opportunity for guests and visitors to see artists at work as they capture the wonderful landscapes that Ocean House provides.
